Frost puts game away in the third, beats Itasca 26-2

ITASCA – Once Frost (3-0) controlled the time of possession in the third quarter, the Polar Bears pulled away from Itasca (0-3) for a 26-2 win.  Polar Bears QB Kobe Hailey ran for 180 yards on 15 carries for four touchdowns – two of those runs coming in the third quarter.

Itasca limited the Polar Bears to just 6:58 of offensive possession in the first half.  While the Frost defense forced two Wampus Cats turnovers and held on two fourth down conversion attempts, the offense fumbled away the Bears’ first two drives.  Hailey intercepted Itasca QB Jacob Lacey inside the Frost end zone and DB Devin Gruben broke up a pass on a fake punt.  After  LB Collin Drain recovered an Itasca fumble at the Bears’ 39 yard line, the Frost offense used a Hailey completion to Leonel Hernandez on a crossing pattern for 25 yards and a Hailey 17-yard run to take the lead.

To preserve the lead going into halftime, Frost held again on fourth down.  With 15 seconds and the ball at the Bears’ 1-yard line, Itasca ran RB Ethan Greeson up the middle.  DL Austin Stamper , DL Caleb Curl, LB Joseph Frazier and LB Preston Lane met Greeson at the line of scrimmage for no gain.  Itasca’s defense, however did score a play later, as the snap to Hailey sailed through the end zone for a safety.

Frost took the third quarter’s opening possession and drove 60-yards in eight plays for a touchdown.  Hailey rolled to his left and found seal blocks from RB Brandon Folmar and WR Antoni Alvarado that allowed him to coast to the corner pylon from 5-yards out.  The Bears added to their lead with a seven play 83-yard drive capped off by another Hailey run – this one from 25-yards out.

In the fourth quarter, the Polar Bears put an exclamation point to their victory with a 5:12 drive over 76-yards.  During the drive, on 2nd down and 15 at the Frost 39-yard line, Hailey rolled left dodging tacklers unable to see an opening.  He then peeled back reversing his direction, picked up some blocks from his receivers, and ripped off a 46-yard gain.  On 4th down and 5 at the Itasca 10-yard line, Frost set their receivers left of the line.  Then they shifted the tight end and running back to left.  With the overload working like bulldozer, Hailey zipped in for the final Frost score of the night.
